Well, ok, I think there are considerably more things I agree than that I disagree, so: Catholic (80%) Atheist (20%)

As another Roman Catholic myself, I think it's justified to feel it, ACN45Trooper... It's "normal" in a big organisation to have some people mess up, and when that happens, people outside of it will look at that bad thing more than they do the good things...

Is there someone else there who is against the idea of turning Hagia Sophia back as a mosque? I myself prefer it is destroyed to ground (haha, I love V) than seeing it back to a 'meh' Muslim building. There are just too much mosque in this little city. Also, most Turks are atheist or at least cares not about religion, so why do they need new mosque?

Not true. 93% of Turks are practicing Muslims. Just because most of them believe in Secularism doesn't mean they are Atheists...

I also don't mind at all, to be honest. The Parthenon was once built as a temple complex, yet now it is nothing much more than a tourist attraction; buildings don't necessarily have to retain their function over time, and in this particular place, there isn't even a considerable change of function. The Hagia Sophia was built as a place of worship, and if it will become a place of worship again, I don't see how that changes things. It's even dedicated to the same God as when it was built, albeit as part of a different religion...

What I am really afraid about is actually the value of the precious Byzantine arts inside it. The last time Ottomans turned it to a mosque, they plastered all mosaics... You know, art. T.T

hi guys,
Firstly I am really pleased by Nero, I wish people would understand that muslims are not terrorists also I'm really happy that you are not racist in religion because sadly a lot of Muslims hate Jews and as far as I know a lot of Jews hate Muslims (I personally believe one should not be hated based on religion but rather how good or bad the person himself is)

Second, Allah is not a moon god, Allah actually is simply God (of all things)

Thirdly, I wouldn't completely agree to the chart because I believe the root is monotheism (all people worshipped one God), then beliefs varied with time between groups of humans. Then some of the people started worshipping the surroundings and other people due to weakening of faith (I dont mean to be offensive or label someone as wrong, just telling my opinions). Then some people completely stopped believing in God and did not accept the thought of worshipping other things and became atheists.

Also, regardless of what the truth is, all people should live and let live in unity and peace Smile

I think it's funny how most antisemitism among Muslims doesn't have its roots in theological disagreement, but in geopolitics...

Interestingly, Muslims believe that Islam, christianity and the religion of Jews (I think its called Judaism) are related.

Muslims even consider and term Christians and Jews as "Ehlulkitaab" (People of the book) as we believe that Christians and Jews were revealed the true message of God but it was distorted/corrupted by people over time.
Islam teaches Muslims to respect and live peacefully with people including Christians and Jews, but as I have said numerous time that very few Muslims actually follow Islam as it was taught by the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)
Also, its nice to see that there is peacefully discussion going on rather than fights and debates Smile

They're the "Five Solas" that were the basis of the Protestant Reformation. In order, they translate to "Only the Bible. Only faith. Only grace. Only Christ. Glory only to God". All of them are responses to Catholic doctrines of the time that the Reformers disagreed with, such as indulgences, reverence of saints, and the supposed authority of the Pope.

We Catholics are actually agreed on the later two, which are Solus Christus and Soli Deo Gloria. The rest, we have our own doctrines.

Pepp, or recently called Susan

Re: Religion Thread

Post by peugeot407 on Mon 2 Dec 2013 - 0:35

Actually, I'd say the modern Catholic Church has very much retained its stance on Soli Deo Gloria, as veneration of the saints and the authority of the Pope are still very much intact. The purveyance of good works as a means to salvation also hasn't completely disappeared within the Catholic Church, even though it's now less prominent than it was in 1550, so I suppose Sola Gratia also still marks a difference between Protestantism and Catholicism, and the same goes for Sola Fide, as the Catholic Church still preaches that salvation can be administered through the sacraments, and does not necessarily depend on faith alone. Sola Scriptura is debatable, as while Papal bulls still sway a lot of authority in the Catholic Church, they are arguably now seen as inferior to the Bible, something that definitely wasn't the case at the time of the Reformation.

So really, the only one of the Five Solas that has also become Catholic Doctrine is Solus Christus. Unless, of course, one were to put the Priesthood of All Believers as part of this Sola, in which case the Catholic Church is still very much in disagreement with it, although the Church of England also shares that disagreement, yet is a Protestant church...
