Well, I never play 1v1, so it may be that there's way less wood on Borneo with two players...

@Pepp: That's quite generic. If you're Ottoman you should always train Janissaries, they're bleeding brilliant!

Speaking of Ottomans, I find it quite odd that when playing as Indians with the Ottomans as a consulate nation, it's likely you'll have more Great Bombards by the end of the game then somebody who decided to play with the actual Ottomans them-bloody-selves. What were they thinking of? Not that they don't need it, as those Siege Elephants are completely hopeless, but still...

Re: AoE3 Strategy Topic

Post by Pepp on Sun 5 Jun 2011 - 23:42

As in history, there is a record that the Sultan of Aceh ask a help from Sultan of Ottoman in Aceh's war against Johor and Portuguese. As the Ottoman army must be move through Egypt - Arab - Persia - India, maybe they think some army landed in India and work as something mercenary. Just maybe...

And, some strange strategy:
1. France
I send some useful card from HC that enhanced my coureur. I train many coureur, and if enemy attack, I'll need nothing except my coureur. I even attack my enemy base with them, although you must command them manually as the AI won't.
2. Portuguese
Don't train too much army in the earlier game, give some space for the strong organ gun!
3. Aztec
Don't train too much early army. Remember, there is noble army and also skeleton!
4. Russian
The best to use is oprickniki. Don't train too much strelet, they're s4ck. Cossack is the second choice. And Halberd is the half second choice. Build as much blockhouse as you can in the early game, they'll be useful for you.
5. British
The best of all is redcoat, but if you have yeomen card, longbowmen could be the second choice. Remember they have rocket.
6. Ottoman
Janissary : Abus gun : Great Bombard = 30 : 10 : 1
7. India
Send all elephant tech card, then train some. Urumi will be useful too, if you have some coin/? for them. Jat lancer, don't waste your money for this expensive unit.
If you going to be poor: the best choice is sepoy and gurkha
8. Japanese
Samurai : Yumi : Ashigaru = 3 : 7 : 10
Naginata : Yabusame = 20 : 15
If you want to train yamabushi and shinobi, better to train them via Tokugawa, as they're cheaper there. The best consul: Isolation, but makes sure you send all important thing from all consul (bank, church, arsenal from Dutch, etc)
9. China
Best wonder:
1. Porcelain, help your economy
2. Summer: free unit ^^
3. White Pagoda: enable your old monk to heal
4. Academy: The flying crow
Best infantry:
Chu ko nu for me, later arquebusier
Best cavalry:
Meteor hammer and his twin brother
Best siege unit:
Flying crow
10. Spain
Train less tercio, more rodelero and jinete. Some musketeer as backer.
11. German
Uhlan : War wagon = 50 : 0
12. Dutch
Build many banks, and many mercenary.

Unless that was thought up by an officer from Moveslowlystan, they most certainly moved their troops by sea. Also, even if they did move it by land, they wouldn't have to go through Egypt and Arabia, especially not if it happened to be a regiment stationed in Mesopotamia.

I mean they go through the Palestine, to Egypt, then sailing with galley through the Hindian ocean, they must transit at Arab, Persia, and India, isn't it?

Why? I rather suspect that it'd be more likely for them to board in the Persian Gulf rather than the Red Sea, as it is an almost equally long way from Istanbul but Basra was a much larger port than any Red Sea port at the time. Also, I'd say there's no need to stop off in Arabia and Persian, why not go straight on to the Indian Ocean, stop of in southern India (or Ceylon), then go through the Bay of Bengal to the East Indies...

Jaja. I get military as soon as I get population, so settlers don't have time to train.

There should be an Indian Wars game mode, where each player starts with a Trade Post and the object is for your team to control all the Trade Post sites and for you to have a Native Embassy.

Behind my walls, or sometimes also close to the enemy base, depends on it.

And are there more people who build 4 rows of Walls behind each other?

Walls are necessary, place 3 or 4 behind each other, for optimal defense. And don't forget to upgrade them!
